Conference Proposal

In the book Women and Politics in Iran:Veiling, Unveiling, and Reveiling. Sedghi, Hamideh. Sedghi rejects the term feminist because it makes it sound like women are all the same. However Sedghi seems to lump all men in Iran together. In order to correct this misconception, I took on the role to research on how men in different social classes are different from each other through Iran cinema. I observed and carefully dissected films in which each have different class men. One film talks about an upper class man who is a factory owner. This factory owner treats his female employee with respect, he tries to help her get out of poverty and help out her family. The factory owner falls in love with her and doesn’t marry her right away. On the contrary, the other film talks about a low class criminal who despite being helped by a women, he keeps yelling at her and doesn’t respect her at all.Instead he ignores her advice and still does criminal acts and blames her for his wrong life. He later falls in love with a woman and marries her right away. He lies about his profession and lies to his family. In these two films can see how men from different social classes are different from each other, and that this difference affects how they treat women. I would like to further talk about my research in your conference and explain further my findings.
